If one computer will always be plugged in, buy the iX1400 and save £100+. The iX1600's touchscreen and Wi-Fi only earn their keep when several people share the scanner.

Which should you buy?
These two share the identical scan engine — 40 ppm duplex, 50-sheet feeder, same image quality, same ScanSnap Home software. The iX1600 adds a 4.3-inch touchscreen and Wi-Fi so it can scan to profiles without a PC and serve several users. The iX1400 is USB-only with a single big blue button.
For a solo desk the iX1400 is the smarter purchase: you lose nothing in scan quality or speed and the money saved buys a lot of paper storage boxes. For a shared office scanner where the receptionist, the bookkeeper and the boss all want their own destination, the iX1600's profile buttons genuinely change how the scanner gets used.
