Our take
29 × 90 mm die-cut paper labels, 400 to a roll, on Brother's DK spool that drops straight into the QL-800 and QL-820NWB. This is the label for envelopes, return addresses and file tabs. Genuine rolls feed reliably and the black-on-white contrast is excellent; compatibles (BETCKEY is the best-reviewed) work fine in the QL-800 series and cost a third as much, but you have to swap the roll onto a reusable spool.

Genuine vs compatible — which should you buy?
Genuine cartridges cost more per page but carry the maker's warranty, hit the quoted page yield reliably, and never trip firmware "unrecognised cartridge" blocks.
Compatible (third-party) cartridges are typically 40–70% cheaper. Quality is fine from reputable sellers, but yields are optimistic, colour accuracy varies, and some brands (HP with HP+ in particular) actively block them. For a mono laser printing text, compatibles are usually the sensible buy; for colour or warranty-critical kit, stay genuine.
