Which should you buy?
Brother's two current desktop scanners share the same imaging hardware. The ADS-4100 is USB-only with a 60-sheet feeder at 35 ppm. The ADS-4300N adds Gigabit Ethernet (no Wi-Fi on either), a bigger 80-sheet feeder, a faster 40 ppm rating, and an ultrasonic double-feed sensor. The N can scan to network folders, email and FTP with no PC involved.
If the scanner sits on one person's desk, the 4100 is the obvious pick. If it lives in the office and anyone can walk up and scan to their own folder, the 4300N's network features are worth every penny of the difference.
Frequently asked questions
No. The ADS-4100 is USB only; the ADS-4300N is USB plus wired Gigabit Ethernet. For Wi-Fi in this class look at the Epson ES-580W or Fujitsu iX1600.
The ADS-4300N has an ultrasonic multi-feed detector that stops the scan when two pages go through together. The ADS-4100 doesn't.
