The ADS-1300 is the better portable in 2026 — twice the speed, USB-C, and a proper ADF. Buy the P-215II only if you already rely on Canon's CaptureOnTouch software.

Which should you buy?
The Canon P-215II was the default portable scanner for a decade, and it's still fine: 15 ppm duplex, a 20-sheet feeder, USB-powered, small enough for a laptop bag. The Brother ADS-1300 is simply the newer design — 30 ppm duplex from the same 20-sheet ADF, USB-C power and data, an ID card slot, and modern driver support. It's the same size and weight class and usually the same money.
Canon's CaptureOnTouch is slightly friendlier than Brother's iPrint&Scan for one-touch jobs, and the P-215II's card-reader trick (scanning a driving licence through the main path) is handy. But speed matters more than anything on a portable you use in the field, and here the Brother is twice as fast.
