Our take
Epson's 104 series is the ink for the home EcoTank range. One set of four bottles fills the tanks completely and prints roughly 4,500 pages of black or 7,500 of colour — Epson's own comparison is "72 cartridges' worth". The bottles are keyed so each colour only fits its own tank, and they don't drip.
The multipack is usually cheaper than four singles; individual black bottles are handy because black runs out first. Don't bother with third-party 104 ink — genuine is already £8 a bottle and Epson's warranty depends on it.

Genuine vs compatible — which should you buy?
Genuine cartridges cost more per page but carry the maker's warranty, hit the quoted page yield reliably, and never trip firmware "unrecognised cartridge" blocks.
Compatible (third-party) cartridges are typically 40–70% cheaper. Quality is fine from reputable sellers, but yields are optimistic, colour accuracy varies, and some brands (HP with HP+ in particular) actively block them. For a mono laser printing text, compatibles are usually the sensible buy; for colour or warranty-critical kit, stay genuine.
