Which should you buy?
The ET-2850 is Epson's mainstream home EcoTank: print, scan, copy, Wi-Fi, auto duplex, up to three years of 104 ink in the box. The ET-3850 is the same idea aimed at a home office — it adds a 30-sheet automatic document feeder (scan a stack instead of one page at a time), an Ethernet port, a faster 15 ppm engine, a 250-sheet paper cassette instead of a rear tray, and it uses the 102 ink series whose black is pigment-based, so text is crisper and doesn't smudge with a highlighter.
If the printer is for homework, photos and the occasional letter, the ET-2850 is the right buy. If you scan paperwork, print invoices or work from home, the ET-3850's ADF alone justifies the difference.
